This 2010-W Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coin has been certified as a perfect MS70 by third-party grading company Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) – so you can rest assured that you won't find one in better condition.
The First Spouse Gold Coin Series was launched by the U.S. Mint in 2007 as a way to honor the women who have served as First Ladies of the United States of America throughout the nation's history. The ½ oz. coins have a face value of and are struck from .9999 fine (24 karat) gold. The 2010 Mary Todd Lincoln uncirculated (mint state) gold coin was struck at the West Point Mint and therefore includes a “W” mint mark on its obverse.
Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Mint State Coin Design
In addition to the “W” mint mark, the obverse of the Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coin includes a portrait designed and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill of a stoic Mrs. Lincoln wearing flowers in her hair and an elegant necklace and earrings. Additional inscriptions include “MARY TODD LINCOLN”, “IN GOD WE TRUST”, “LIBERTY”, “2010”, “16TH” and the years she served as First Lady “1861-1865”.
Mary Todd Lincoln was known to be a very kind and compassionate woman and the reverse of her First Spouse coin shows her doing something that she often did, personally delivering flowers and books to soldiers that were wounded during the Civil War. This reverse design was created by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. Reverse inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, “”, “1/2 OZ.” and “.9999 FINE GOLD”.
Honor the legacy of the nation's 16th First Lady with the Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coin.
When her husband, Abraham Lincoln, was first elected to Congress in 1847, Mary worked tirelessly to help him advance his career, which ultimately led him to the Presidency of the United States. She continued to support him while dealing with many struggles of her own, including debilitating migraines that she suffered from throughout her adulthood. She would eventually succumb to severe depression after living through the untimely death of three sons and the assassination of her husband - but her kindness and compassion never wavered up until she died peacefully in 1882.
You can honor Mrs. Lincoln's legacy by owning this perfect MS70 2010-W Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coin certified and encapsulated by NGC.
