    Description

Jumbo 1933 Gold Double Eagle Commomerative Coin Value 9.95
Minted from 1907 to 1933, Augustus Saint-Gaudens' "Walking Liberty" Double Eagle is considered to be one of the most beautiful coins ever struck. In 1933, however, America was in the grip of an economic depression. A major part of President Roosevelt's plan to stabilize the economy included banning private ownership of gold, which led to the government rounding up and destroying the vast majority of U.S. gold coinage. In 2002, one surviving specimen sold at auction for .59 Million, making it  the most expensive gold coin in history.
